27 Sep British skiing ‘Murray’ hopeful secures sponsorship
Zak Vinter backed by Edinburgh luxury chalet company, Le Chardon Mountain Lodges
Zak Vinter, an aspiring young skiing athlete touted as the sport’s answer to Andy Murray, has secured financial backing from Le Chardon Mountain Lodges, a Scottish company who owns and operates luxury ski lodges in Val d’Isere.
The deal follows an appeal for funding by Zak Vinter earlier this year to support his bid to train all year round, with the ultimate goal of competing in the Junior World Alpine Ski Championships in Sweden – a major stepping stone to the 2018 Winter Olympics.
18 year old Vinter, who secured a place in the Delancey British Alpine U21 Squad earlier this year, the British Alpine Junior Team, has been skiing since the age of 2. By 6, he was in the Glasgow Ski Racing team and he was the overall British children’s champion in 2014. He was 4th in the opening Australian FIS race for Giant Slalom.
Luxury company, Le Chardon, is a family run business with a ski racing heritage. Current general manager, Jamie Rennie, raced in the youth British ski team with several of his brothers and sisters. His cousin is the famous Alain Baxter and Lesley McKenna, a distant relative.
“At Le Chardon, one of our taglines is ‘designed by skiers for skiers,’” said Jamie Rennie, general manager at Le Chardon. “Our first chalet was built in time for the Albertville Winter Olympics, we were brought up to ski race and our love of skiing is central to the business we run. We are thrilled to sponsor Zak and support the next generation of British ski racers,”
“I’m so delighted to have the backing of a Scottish company with such a racing heritage,” said Zak Vinter. “I’ve worked really hard to get to where I am with the support of my parents. I’m excited about the future and the ability to train all year round is vital if I want to reach my ultimate goal of Olympic level.”
Zak is aiming to qualify for the World Junior Championships in Are, Sweden in 2017.
Le Chardon hopes to run an exclusive ‘teen clinic’ week for guests with bright young ski lovers under the age of 18 in April 2017. Details will be confirmed in due course.
