There is an event packed month ahead here with races, the film festival and another showcase of classical music. Things are kicked off with “La Scara” the international children’s skiing race. Watch more than 1000 stars of the future from 22 countries battling it out on the OK piste. The adults then get their turn with the FIS Super G which is being held in resort from the 14-17 April.
This is followed swiftly by “Musicaval”. In it’s 15th year, this festival is held in the church and features some current stars from the classical world – check out some of the performers here. The 12th annual Val d’Isere Adventure & Discovery Film Festival will be held from the 21 April. Featuring adventures & expeditions from around the globe, these films will also be judged during the week with the audience able to express their opinion too.
Countdown to 2009 World Cup Launched...
This weekend also saw the official launch to the 2009 World Cup. On Friday 1st February there was a definite buzz in town as we witnessed the unveiling of the official poster which will no doubt become a regular sight to all! There was also music for the both the young & old this weekend with a popular Rolling Stones cover band called the "100% Stones" and then the French house specialists "Cassius" providing more up-beat tunes on the nursery slopes on Saturday evening.
For more information and news from the World Cup have a look at www.valsport.org. We are currently receiving a lot of interest for these weeks (3rd – 15th February 2009) so if you or your company would like to book over this period, be sure to contact us as soon as possible to confirm availability.
Men's Alpine World Championships
The men’s tour rolled into Val d’Isere this weekend for what was scheduled to be two days of Alpine world skiing. The prestigious event was supposed to kick off on Saturday 2nd February with the downhill competition and continue on Sunday with the super combined race and slalom. However the snow put a stop to the first of these events which ultimately had to be cancelled much to everyone's chagrin! However on Sunday all the world’s elite skiers successfully rendez-voused here in Val d’Isere and tried out the new Face de Bellevarde slope prepared in anticipation of the 2009 FIS Alpine World Championships.
6000 spectators gathered to see the magnificent Bode Miller strut his stuff in the downhill and eventually win the fiercely contested super-combined event. Following closely behind to take 2nd & 3rd places were the Croatian double act Ivica Kostelic and Natko Zrncic-Dim who made everything look oh-so easy...
Snow Snow Snow!

The snow is just amazing at the moment! More photos coming soon but in the meantime thanks to Top Ski's Pat Zimmer for this great shot.
