Val d’Isere Polo Masters Returns in 2012

Monday, November 28th, 2011

polo in valdisereWhilst Val d’Isere may be regarded as one of the most prestigious places in the world in which to enjoy winter sports, the region also has a number of less mountainous activities taking place throughout the year for guests to enjoy. A far cry from Val d’Isere skiing and snowboarding is the popular sport of polo. Coming in January 2012, the skiing region will host the annual Polo Masters between 11th and 14th January.

Hosted at Face de Bellevarde’s snowy foot, the Polo Masters has seen much success over the years, with visitors finding the event a huge attraction. In 2011 several nations competed in the masters, with four teams of three players each taking to the snowy scene on their horses to play polo in a fantastic and glamorous way. In the event’s fourth year, the four-day competition will see a great atmosphere for both players and spectators, with visitors to the region able to enjoy an unexpected surprise in addition to the normal Val d’Isere skiing outings.

With this year’s teams featuring the best polo players from Europe and Argentina, the January 2012 event looks once again to be a great success. With the region being well known for skiing and outdoor pursuits, it is also a great setting for the wonderful game of polo. For winter sports enthusiasts to the region for the 2011/12 season the Polo Masters offers something a little unique. With a great range of celebrations and entertainment planned for the end of each day, Val d’Isere will be abuzz with excitement.

Ski season in Espace Killy has started

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

One of the glaciers Grande Motte in the Espace Killy, located in Val d’Isere’s neighbouring resort Tignes, has now re-opened for the winter ski season!

Val d’Isere resort is set to open officially on the 26th November!

Le Chardon Mountain Lodges is looking forward to an excellent season.

It’s August and the Christmas Bookings have begun

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

When planning a family ski holiday over the Christmas and New Year period you have to plan ahead. There are the invites, the actual trip preparations along with everything to do with Christmas such as presents and family meals/entertainment. Here at Le Chardon Mountain Lodges, we take a lot of the stress out of the preparation through our planning service and the fact we can organise, on your behalf,  almost anything you wish to do whilst in Val d’Isere.

The festive time of year within the wintry Alps is definitely enchanting and each year there is a special event in the ski resort to celebrate the occasion. Christmas is much less commercial in France compared to the United Kingdom, which means that you will not find Santa in the shops or hear “It’s Christmas Time” in October – however, you can invariably be certain of a cup of mulled wine, several carols as well as some fantastic fireworks – the occasion does not go unmarked.

Staying in catered ski chalets means you can plan with our chef in advance what your party would most like to eat and drink, but if choosing to eat out, most places will put on a Christmas menu with bubbly as well as standard French meals. Le Chardon can recommend and book beforehand on your behalf if you wish to treat yourself to dinner out. Similarly, planning in advance is recommended for those who really want to see in the New Year in a specific club or bar – most of them tend to be ticket only, so it is important to enquire beforehand to prevent disappointment!

The week prior to Christmas sees Val Thorens gleaming with festive cheer. The festive lights are up throughout the entire resort, the market is under way and Santa Claus himself might even appear. Christmas mass, music concerts as well as shows for children all add to the fun of your ski trip.

At midnight on New Year’s Eve tons of drunken revellers head down to the roundabout in the middle of the resort for the big countdown – not a recognised occasion as such, more of a long-held custom. When the clock strikes 12, champagne corks are popped and fireworks are set off in celebration.

Catered Ski Chalets Best for Family Ski Holidays

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

You might want to start planning ahead now to make sure your next family ski holiday is as effortless and enjoyable as it can be. If you know the size and standard of accommodation you’d like, and the level of service you require, it’s a good time to book early and eliminate the stress that can creep up as the ski season draws closer. Catered ski chalets are perfect for family ski breaks as they provide a comfortable and private home environment. Everyone can relax and enjoy the holiday, with a chalet host on hand to accommodate your requirements, and a chef who will create amazing meals to suit the tastes of everyone in the family.

Val d’Isere offers something for everyone regardless of ability, and there are some great ski schools offering expert tuition for all ages too. There is also a wide range of other activities for the times you’re not on the slopes. The new sports centre at the foot of the Bellevarde piste houses 2 swimming pools with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. There is also a fantastic climbing wall, squash courts plus a gymnasium and fitness centre.

For children, there are countless activities to choose from. ‘Airboarding’ – using a snow bodyboard that gives the sensation of flying above the snow; Snake Gliss – a “snow snake” sleigh for up to 20 people (minimum age 7); or play 5-a-side snow football. This all takes place at the foot of the Solaise area.

More importantly, access to the slopes is super-efficient. Geared up for a massive influx of visitors every year, queues are virtually non-existent, perfect for impatient family members! Add to this the bluebird days and beautiful alpine scenery, and the whole family will be in ski heaven.

The best tip for a great family skiing holiday is to do your research as early as possible to ensure you get exactly what you want for your family or group, without having to make compromises.
