Val d’Isere Dining On Your Chalet Staff Night Off

Le Chardon Mountain Lodges’ guests have one evening in our chalets each week when the staff have a much deserved night off from their first class cheffing and hosting.

We thoroughly recommend that guests go out and experience the incredible restaurants and local Alpine cuisine which Val d’Isere has to offer. Val d’Isere has a blossoming reputation for its dining hosting an annual Gastronomy Festival and now has its second Michelin star restaurant.

Fondues are a typical dish. This is a large pot of cheese or a mixture of cheeses, reblochon is popular in Val d’Isere, melted with cornflour, garlic and a large dash of white wine over a hot stove on the table. It is served with crusty chunks of bread, beef and vegetables for dipping with a skewer. Many of the restaurants in Val d’Isere offer this dish particularly Le Lodge and also La Casserole which has two sittings for their famous fondue.

Tartiflette is another local speciality and popular mountain warming lunch choice. Reblochon is also used to create this cheesy layered potato, bacon and onion dish. Reblochon is a local Savoie region cheese which is incredibly rich, gooey with a nutty flavour and is sold in huge rounds at the local market on Mondays. La Perdrix Blanche, La Grande Ours and L’Auberge St Hubert are good choices for this.

Raclette is another French cheese experience where the cheese round is melted on the table and scraped off onto a plate of potatoes, meats, gherkins and salad. L’Arolay at La Fornet and Le Coin Savoyarde specialise in this.

The restaurants in Val d’Isere offer such an eclectic range of dining options from the best pizza at Chez Paolo to truffle pork belly at Michelin starred La Table de L’Ours.

To wash this all down the locals drink a digestif called Genepi which is made from a local plant found at high altitude in the Savoie region. It is a strong liqueur with a rather potent herbal and acquired taste!

We are happy to recommend any restaurants and on off the mountain for lunch and dinner, afternoon tea and coffee.

Bon appetit!

L’Edelweiss – a top Val d’Isere Restaurant

things to do valdisere

Val D’Isere is classed as one of the World’s premier ski resorts and with numerous luxury French ski chalets on offer, families, couples and even groups of friends can have a fantastic holiday away.  Whilst the high altitude slopes offer the thrill of wintersports and the resort’s quaint chalets are perfect for relaxing in, Val d’Isere’s L’Edelweiss restaurant is also a great attraction, especially for those looking for a beautiful spot to eat.

Located amongst the tree-lined slopes of Val d’Isere’s Fornet region, L’Edelweiss is in one the Espace Killy’s most stunning spots.  With high mountainous slopes, Val d’Isere can often have a lack of places to enjoy the scenery, especially if the weather is particularly cold and windy.  However, with the run down to this restaurant offering tree lined turning pistes, the area of Val d’Isere is a great place to enjoy and is worthwhile exploring.

L’Edelweiss itself is a beautiful chalet, with a roaring fire inside and a stunning terrace to sit out on if the sky is clear and blue.  The end of the valley is fairly sheltered, offering maximum opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views.  However, it is L’Edelweiss’s cuisine that makes it a main attraction, with the well-priced menu offering Savoi regional food such as Tartiflette unlike anywhere else in the French Alps.  With attentive waiters and great wine, booking a table here is highly recommended.

For those enjoying French ski chalets in Val d’Isere, L’Edelweiss is a stop that should not be missed.  After dining at this beautiful restaurant, the food, views and service are likely to be remembered for a lifetime.

Fine Dining in Val D’Isere

Val d’Isere is known as one of the globe’s best skiing spots, but it offers far more than beautiful slopes and wonderful skiing.  As a favorite amongst winter sports enthusiasts, the region not only offers fantastic French ski chalets, but some of the best dining opportunities for miles around.

With Val d’Isere being very attractive as a ski resort it is unsurprising that there is also a range of top restaurants here. One Michelin star restaurant La Table de l’Ours; a venue which has mouth-watering cuisine and the prestige of quality.  Alternatively, Le Grande Ourse, which opened in the 1930s, remains one of Val d’Isere’s finest dining experiences, offering the best gourmet food around.

Away from fine dining, individuals staying in French ski chalets can still find some great cuisine in addition to the catering options that their own accommodation may offer.  L’Atelier d’Edmond has three dining spaces for visitors to immerse themselves in Savoyard culture.  Great wines and a relaxed atmosphere make this an ideal spot to visit, and guests can spend many happy evenings here.  A great alternative is the Pier Paul Jack, which is a combination of a tapas bar, global cuisine restaurant, bar and eatery.

With a full day skiing done why not visit one of the fine restaurants in Val d’Isere to cap off a brilliant day.  For those enjoying this beautiful region, the cuisine will not be a disappointment, adding to the experience of a great winter sports holiday.
